Savings app for Sparvik Bank, 2025
Four in ten people left Sparvik’s savings app during sign-up. Most of them quit at the ID check, before they had saved anything.

Eleven weeks

The decision
We moved the ID check after the first deposit.
What it cost
Fraud review got slower: the risk team now checks new accounts within 24 hours instead of before they open.
Questions about this project? I’m happy to walk you through it.
The problem
Sparvik's savings app asked for a photo ID on the second screen. Our funnel showed 41% of new sign-ups stopping there, and in eight interviews the reason was the same: they wanted to see the app work before handing over a passport.
What we tried first
We first made the ID step faster: better camera guidance, fewer retakes. Completion went up three points. The step itself was the problem, not its design.
How the new flow works
People create an account, add their first $50, see it in a goal, and only then verify, with a reminder the next morning. Unverified balances are capped at $500, a limit we agreed with compliance in week three.

The result
In the first month, 92% of people who deposited went on to verify within a week, so asking later cost almost nothing in verified customers.

What I would do differently
I would have brought the risk team into the first workshop, not the third. The cap was their idea, and it unblocked everything.
